Tips for Excellent Coffee At Home

  • Grind your coffee fresh and right before brewing.

  • Grind your coffee to match the brewing style. In general fine for espresso, medium for filter coffee and coarse for french press.

  • Use a scale to measure your coffee and water. This allows for consistency and use the following ratios of water to coffee 2:1 for espresso and 16 (slightly stronger) or 18 (slightly weak):1 for filter/french press.

  • Used filtered water or reverse osmosis water. Coffee is 98% water and poor tasting water will effect the coffee.

  • When making a french press only heat the water to 180°F (82°C), this helps cut out some astringency in the cup. Plus it allows you to drink your coffee sooner with out burning your tongue.

  • Try new coffees! By trying new coffees and regions you haven’t drank before can help you find great tasting coffee.
